The term nutrient dense foods is actually used for those food items which are the most helpful in maintaining proper overall health and well being of a person. These food items also include those which are known for being very efficient in aiding weight loss and maintenance of proper body weight. Drastic changes in the diet are not recommended because they often lead to excessive hunger and deprivation. If a person tends to skip meals and cuts down on the amount of food ingested during the day, she or he may suffer from irritability, reduced memory, poor concentration, lack of energy and tiredness, among other things. Most types of vegetables and fruits are also food items jam packed with precious nutrients.

It is also important to ingest nutrient dense foods in as much variety as possible because that way the body may obtain a wider array of different kinds of precious nutrients. All that leads to weight loss, and the overall health of both the mind and the body get improved. The metabolism and its functioning get enhanced significantly as well. Among the most important of all the nutrients are the ones which are referred to as antioxidants. They are highly efficient when it comes to fighting off the free radicals and reducing the amount and severity of damage they cause inside the human body. The best sources of antioxidants include raspberries, strawberries and blueberries.
