There are people who, even though they fall into the “slender” category, do have some belly fat that they want to get rid of. There are, of course, those who simply are a little overweight and this includes belly weight too.

The principle behind weight gain is simple. The body consumes more calories than it burns on a long run, and they convert into fat. In fact, consuming only 100 calories daily more than the body uses for energy can lead to ten pound gain in course of one year.

When it has more energy than it uses, the body stores it as fat deposits. No specific foods cause belly fat and not fat accumulation in the other parts of the body. However, certain body types do tend to get belly fat instead of fat on the hips, buttocks, or other parts of the body.

Android and gynoid fat distribution

There are two main types of body fat distribution. These are android and gynoid. Android obesity means that the fat gets distributed mainly in the abdomen area, which is also called apple shaped body. According to many relevant medical institutions and scientific studies in the area, people with android fat distribution are at higher risk of developing diseases related to obesity, like diabetes, high cholesterol, metabolic syndrome and heart disease.

On the other hand, people with gynoid fat distribution tend to gain weigh especially around their hips and thighs and less in the belly. This body type is often referred to as pear-shaped type. People who have this body type and this type of fat distribution are at lower risk of obesity-related diseases than those of android type.

Foods that cause belly fat

It must be understood that there is no such food that will cause fat in the abdominal area and not in the other parts of the body. The key to losing belly fat is the same as the one for losing fat anywhere in the body, or for an overall weight loss. This means more nutrient-rich foods and less fatty foods and calories.

Nutrient-dense and low-calorie foods are fresh vegetables, beans, whole grains and lean proteins. Healthy fats are very important too, and this includes seeds, nuts, olives, olive oil, and avocados.

If a person wants to lose belly fat, he or she must follow the general guidelines for losing fat in general. There is no specific diet for belly fat alone.

How to lose belly fat

The most important thing is to avoid foods high in fat and sugars. This includes, for example, cakes, cookies, ice cream, sodas, chips and similar snacks and fried foods. The diet should be rich in abovementioned nutrient-dense and low-calorie foods, and adequate water intake is also very important.

Exercise is the essential part of any weight loss regimen. There are exercises that are designed to burn calories, so called cardio exercises. With a proper diet, water consumption and exercise, and of course with persistence and dedication, losing belly fat is not that hard as it may look.
