Coughing in Children
Many children experience coughing when they are sick, usually when they have a common cold or some other type of infection, but at times, it can even be a more serious breathing disorder that is causing it.
Some of the most usual treatments for a cough in children include air humidification, making sure the child is kept away from cigarette smoke and exposure to other irritants, and over-the-counter decongestants and cough suppressants are often used.
However, there are also a lot of good natural remedies to get rid of a child’s cough. Natural remedies
Onions are an excellent remedy for throat-related problems because they do an excellent job in clearing up congestion and inflammation of the throat.
Natural remedies are generally a lot safer than over-the-counter drugs, therefore parents often look for these alternative treatments before going to the pharmacy to pick something up to help their child’s cough.
Bamboo is an herb that can also reduce inflammation in the lungs and help get rid of phlegm. Other good cough treatments in herb form for children are wild cherry and mulberry.
Honey is also an excellent cough remedy for children that are a little older, but kids under the age of two should not be given honey.
Honey can soothe irritation and ease the spasms that cause coughing.
Fluids are also very important in treating coughs. A child needs to be drinking a lot of water in order to keep hydrated. Of course, teas and soups will also be good, along with fresh-squeezed juices.
A good idea is to mix some homemade tumeric powder and warm milk and drink this concoction twice a day.
Gargling hot water is also a good remedy, especially salt water, which will help get rid of troublesome phlegm.
Fresh tulsi mixed with pure honey is also a good remedy.
A paste can be prepared using red pepper, ground ginger and apple cider vinegar, along with honey and some water.
If the cough turns out to be chronic, then a person can take some garlic and cloves and add it to either milk or water. This can be filtered and some sugar can be added to the mixture in order to improve the taste for the children.
Another good mixture includes about a gram of black pepper, long pepper, and dry ginger combined with honey. This needs to be taken two or three times a day in order for the cough to subside.
Another good combination to stop the cough is garlic pieces boiled in water with some sugar, lemon and honey added to it.
