Even though there are those medications that are known for their cough suppressant ability, the truth is that they should be used carefully and after consulting a doctor. On the other side, it might be a good idea to try out some of the homemade remedies that also work as cough suppressants, because they will definitely not do any harm and they are very effective.
Homemade cough suppressants
A glass of warm water should be combined with apple cider vinegar and honey, and this solution should be drunk every day. A mixture of honey and lemon juice in equal quantities is also a good homemade cough suppressant. Two tablespoons should be taken several times a day. Grape juice can also be mixed with honey, and the signs of improvement will be obvious very soon, but this combination should be taken for at least four days. Onion juice can also be used for a natural cough suppressant remedy, and it is enough to mix one tablespoon of onion juice with one tablespoon of honey. However, this mixture needs to be left aside for five hours before it is taken, and then it should be used two times a day. Ginger juice can also be helpful, particularly when a pinch of black pepper powder is added to it, along with some honey. This mixture should also be taken two or three times a day at least. Almonds are a great ingredient for a homemade remedy which also contains butter and sugar. They need to be soaked and left overnight, and in the morning they should be peeled and ground first, and then butter and sugar should be added. This mixture needs to be taken early in the morning and in the evening.There is no reason to go to the doctor at the very first sign of cough, but if none of these remedies help even after five days, or if the cough only becomes more severe, doctor’s advice should be sought.
