Beetroot is a deep red root of a beet plant (Beta Vulgaris). Its leaves are also edible but the round or oblong root is more popular among vegetables. There a variant of subspecies of beet but a red one is the most popular. These other variants are white, yellow and golden-colored beetroot. Beet root can be boiled or cooked, consumed raw or as pickles. In some parts of the world, mostly with colder climate, beetroot soup is a popular dish.
