African American women and men seem to have trouble finding adequate hair cosmetics for their unique hair types. Usually, most of available products on the market deprive one's hair of moisture, leading to damage and more harm than good, being a too high price to pay. However, there are ways of dealing with this problem. All you need to do is to read the lines below.

Before Anything Else...

Before rushing to a store and purchasing the first hair treatment product you lay your hands upon, you need to stop and think about your hair style. African American people usually have strong hair which is curly and thick. People who have straight hair can manage it more easily since the sebum from their scalp reaches the hair. However, people with curly hair face excessive dryness due to insufficient lubrication by sebum. Therefore, additional hair care is necessary to preserve health and beauty of your hair.

Having said this, you know that you should avoid products with strong chemicals or alcohol content. Use mild moisturizers and products based on essential oils since they are natural and great for your hair type, revitalizing and hydrating your hair adequately.

Best Cosmetic Products for Dark Hair

African American women need to protect their hair really good, especially if they expose it to ironing, blow dryers, chemical relaxers or braiding. Therefore, you should apply moisturizers and deep conditioners at least once a week. This does not mean that you should neglect your hair during other days. Rather, apply mild conditioners during the rest of the week. Now, for these purpose you can either choose organic, natural hair conditioning products, or make some on your own.

Homemade Haircare

The first hair conditioning recipe is based on mayonnaise. Mix one half a cup of mayonnaise with 10 drops of rosemary essential oil. Moreover, add 7 drops of tea tree oil in the mix, stirring it all up. Massage the scalp with olive oil for a bit and then apply the mixture, covering every inch of your hair and leaving it on for about 20 minutes, washing it off with cool water.

Avocado can also do miracles for your hair, being a lighter variant for people with curly hair. Mash an avocado with 3 egg yolks. Once you have done this, add honey and lemon juice, mixing it all up until you create a unified mass. Avocado will provide your hair with moisture, honey with beautiful shine and lemon will give it cleanliness. Apply this majestic mixture on your hair, cover it with a plastic bag and wrap a warm towel around your scalp. Keep this on for about 10 minutes and then wash it off with pleasantly cold water.

Finally, you may revitalize your hair by mixing 5 tablespoons of olive oil, adding 20 drops of rosemary oil, 10 drops of lavender oil and the same amount of tea tree oil. Warm this up, apply it on the scalp and the hair and wrap it up with a warm towel. Wash it off after 20 minutes with shampoo and cool water.
