The best cure for a dry scalp is to massage certain types of oil into it. Lavender, rosemary, jojoba or coconut oil are excellent in soothing and moisturizing a dry scalp. In order for your scalp to be nourished and healthy, as well as to improve the health of your hair, you can use many traditional remedies. Sage oil, lemon oil, lemon or lime juice, basil oil, eucalyptus or peppermint oil are other possible options in treating an itchy and dry scalp.

You can make a powerful mixture from half a teaspoon of Manuka honey, 5 drops of chamomile, and the same amount of lavender oil and a half a cup of chamomile or sage tea. This home remedy is then rubbed into the scalp, left to soak in for about 10 minutes or so, and then washed off.

In order to sooth a dry scalp and get rid of dandruff, you can add 20 drops of Manuka or tea tree oil or 5 drops of eucalyptus oil into your anti dandruff shampoo and wash your hair regularly. Another formula which can eliminate dandruff and itchy dry scalp is made from rosemary and sage oil mixed with tea tree, ylang ylang, and atlas cedar wood in distilled water. This is then applied on your head.

Neem, jojoba or evening primrose oil along with 5 drops of lavender, bergamot, sandalwood or chamomile and three tablespoons of water can also be applied on your dry scalp to make it softer. A traditional remedy that helps your scalp to be healthy and your hair to be shiny is made from 1 egg, a little bit of cream, butter and cream cheese, 2 table spoons of water and a quarter of a grapefruit. Put this mixture on your scalp, leave it for about 10 minutes and wash thoroughly. You can make a combination of olive oil and 10 drops of lavender oil. Warm the mixture, rub into scalp and wrap in towel.

Another beneficial remedy used to treat a dry scalp and dandruff involves wine or whiskey and dried chaparral. This combination is cooked for 20 minutes. After you left it for several hours it is ready to be used. Wash your hair first and apply the mixture.

In order for your skin to be moisturized and and stay healthy you should have a proper diet that meets all your nutritional needs. If you consume flaxseed, cod liver oil, vitamin E and drink plenty of water you will improve the quality of your skin, and this effect will also extend to the scalp.

Try not to drink sodas and eat candies and instead of that eat vegetables, fruit, nuts, fish, and focus on foods that give you good vitamins and minerals. When washing hair, use a natural anti dandruff shampoo or even a mild baby shampoo and baby conditioner. In order to benefit more, add lelaleuca or olive oil into your conditioner. Wheat germ oil can be consumed or put into conditioner as well. When you rinse your hair, you can add baking soda or a little bit of lemon juice for a better anti-itch effect.

If these home remedies do not work, and your scalp is very dry, itchy, and flakey, it is a good idea to consult a doctor. Dandruff can be a sign of underlying medical conditions, including seborrheic dermatitis and ringworm. Home remedies can play an important role in keeping us healthy, but in some cases, medical intervention is the only thing that will help you.
