Strong, shiny and silky hair is the ideal towards which many women aspire. This however is not always easily obtained as some types of hair, especially long and curly hair, tend to break. The breaking of the hair not only ruins the hair style but it also gives the hair a messy and unhealthy look.

The most common reasons and causes for hair that breaks easily is the dryness, the use of chemical products or products that contain chemical ingredients, damage caused by some treatments like straightening and perms but also by hormonal imbalances, improper diet, certain conditions and illnesses and medications.

This should not be a cause for despair, as there are many different treatment options for hair that breaks.

The first step in overcoming this problem is identifying its cause. For example if a person uses chemical products in excessive amounts on their hair, this may probably be the cause for the breakage and their use should be stopped completely.

In some cases, a mineral deficiency can cause the hair to break easily. This means that a healthy and balanced diet is important for healthy, good looking hair. Increasing the intake of minerals such as zinc, copper, iron, chromium, iodine, calcium, potassium and magnesium will make the hair stronger and less prone to breaking. It is also advised to reduce the intake of saturated fats which promote cholesterol levels in the blood. Cholesterol buildup in the vessels reduces the blood flow to the follicles making the hair weak.

Avocados can do wonders for hair that breaks easily. An efficient and natural mask for hair can be made from one mashed avocado, one egg yolk and some olive oil. This mask should be applied to the hair evenly, left for one hour and then rinsed thoroughly with warm water. Since avocados are all-natural and have no harmful effects so they can be applied every time the hair is washed.

Aloe Vera juice can be sprayed directly onto the hair after washing in order to strengthen the hair and prevent split ends.

Hot oils are very beneficial for the hair that breaks and for split ends. Any kind of oil can be used but a mixture of coconut and olive oil works best for this purpose. The oils should be warm rather than hot, because high temperatures damage the hair.

African American hair can be prone to breaking especially if braided. An excellent product for this type of hair is H2 Ion, which contains negative ions that fuse with the hair, sealing the breakage and moisturize it.

Deep conditioners should be applied on the hair each time after shampooing. There are so many deep conditioners out there so choosing one should not be a problem. These conditioners are applied to towel-dried hair and left for half an hour or longer with the hair wrapped in a hot towel.
