Since a stiff neck is quite frustrating, most people opt for pain killers that will resolve the problem. However, people need to know that there are other ways to get rid of the stiff neck, apart from using pain killers. Forward head flexion
There are a lot of exercises that will help with a stiff neck but forward head flexion is considered to be one of the best. This is a simple cervical flexion that includes a front tilt.
In order to perform this exercise, a person should sit in an upright position on a chair and begin moving the chin towards the chest. It is important to move the head first in front and then downwards. A person should try to bring the chin to the chest. Once the chin is there, a person should stay in that position for several seconds and then slowly get the head back into the starting position. This should be done up to five times.
Front to back tilt
This is another exercise good for a stiff neck. In this exercise a person should move the head slowly backwards as much as he or she can but not put any strain on the neck. Once the head is there, a person should hold that position for several seconds and then slowly return it to the starting position. A person should repeat this exercise five times.
Apart from these two exercises, there are also lateral flexion and neck rotation that are good for a stiff neck.
