Introduction to grapefruit diet

The grapefruit diet is one of the oldest fad diets in existence, and people have been using it since the 1930s.

Still, it has stayed popular and many try to use it even today in order to lose a considerable amount of weight in a short period of time.

Generally there are three ways in which people will be using this diet. One is by eating grapefruit, another by drinking grapefruit juice, and the third is by taking grapefruit capsules before every meal.

The benefit of grapefruit is that is has a lot of vitamin C, fiber and many other nutrients. It also has disease-fighting chemicals.

However, it is not really some magic fat burner. Sure, it is easy to lose some weight by only eating one type of fruit, but still, it is not really the healthiest method for shedding these pounds.

The fact that it is not healthy, however, does not stop people from continuing to use this diet over the last 70 years.

Diet principles

The theory behind the diet is that grapefruit contains a special enzyme that burns fat, though no one has ever really gone beyond that to explain how it works.

This same enzyme can be found in oranges and lemons, but there aren’t many people that go on lemon or orange diets.

The diet is usually based around eating grapefruit while also following a serious exercise program as well.

According to the diet, you can also eat small amount of other food. Generally, according to the diet, grapefruit should be eaten three times a day, before every meal.

One version of the diet calls for a grapefruit, two eggs and two slices of bacon for breakfast, and a grapefruit, any meat in any amount, salad without dressing and cooked vegetables for lunch. Is it healthy?

The diet is probably not very healthy since it only provides less than 1,200 calories per day, which is not enough. According to most experts, the grapefruit itself does not have any special weight loss properties.

Also, there is a small chance of keeping the weight off once the diet has ended if you go back to normal eating habits and abandon exercising.

Even though the diet is promoted with a healthy pyramid-style eating approach, most people will choose to combine it with another low-calorie diet in order to speed up the weight loss, like a low-carb Atkins’ diet for example.
