The sad truth is that most people, even the really slender ones, are not satisfied with their figure and constantly try out different diet regimes and programs. Weight loss diets are essentially a bad idea as most of them are unbalanced and potentially dangerous for the health, but some of them are both effective sad safe. The Big Breakfast Diet is definitely one of them.
The Big Breakfast Diet
The basic principle behind this diet is that large amount of calories consumed for breakfast, combined with approximately the same amount of calories distributed throughout the day, leads to the loss of 21 percent of the body weight over the period of four months. This was even confirmed in a study performed by the Virginia Commonwealth University.
The breakfast should contain 600 calories. This diet allows 22 grams of fat, 58 grams of carbohydrates and 47 grams of protein. The total of calories allowed per day is 1,240.
This diet is obviously very different from other diet plans. In many diets the breakfast is completely omitted, which is not just ineffective for the weight loss, but it is also dangerous from the medical point of view. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it should never be skipped. Not only that, but several studies have confirmed that eating a substantial and caloric breakfast can actually lead to weight loss over time.
If followed for four months, this diet will not only help lose pounds, but it will also keep the weight from returning, which is often the case with other diets.
Types of food for breakfast
As it is explained above, this diet should contain 600 calories. This does not mean that it is allowed to indulge in extra-greasy and super-sugary foods. The breakfast should comprise of healthy foods like fresh fruit and fruit juices, salads, whole grain cereal or bread, dairy products such as skimmed milk and low-fat yogurt and cheese, protein from hard-boiled eggs, peanut butter, nuts, lean meat, especially poultry, and fish. It is best to have breakfast at home, using healthy ingredients, instead of eating fast food on the way to work.
It is recommended to see a licensed dietitian before starting this diet. This is because the dietitian will examine the eating habits of the dieter and make a plan, describing the foods and quantities to be consumed for breakfast and for other meals throughout the day.
Most people who have tried the Big Breakfast Diet have succeeded to lose weight as desired, and more importantly, for most of them the pounds did not come back for at least one year after the diet.
