There are various causes of skin peeling and most of them are nothing to worry about, a peeling skin can sometimes be a sign of some underlying disease or skin damage. Every person knows that skin is made of three layers. The first layer or epidermis is exposed to environmental conditions all the time. In some cases these environmental conditions can be quite harsh. A person with sensitive skin can end up suffering from too much skin peeling in these conditions. Apart from environmental conditions, there are some other causes that lead to skin peeling.

Peeling skin causes

Dryness of the skin is probably the most common cause of skin peeling. People with dry skin will suffer from peeling skin on various parts of the body. Certain people are destined to have dry skin because of certain genetic factors but most people have dry skin because they do not take proper care of their skin. Poor skin care also leads to peeling skin.

Apart from dry skin, environmental conditions also influence the showing up of peeling skin. It is usually the extreme cold weather that leads to this skin condition. However, over exposure of the skin to the sun can also cause peeling skin, especially if a person lacks proper sun protection. Sunburn is known to be a common cause of skin peeling during the summer months.

A person may end up with peeling skin as a side effect from taking certain medications. A genetic disorder known by the name of peeling skin syndrome is responsible for peeling skin in some people. Apart from this disorder, there are some other skin conditions that can cause skin peeling on hands, face and feet. These conditions are exfolative dermatitis, erythroderma, eczema, psoriasis, fungal infections and Kawasaki disease.
