If a person is exposed to the UVA and UVB rays for too long there is not only the danger of getting sunburn peeling but some other skin problems like sun poisoning for instance. Probably the most dangerous disease a person can get from overexposure is skin cancer. A person can know that he or she is suffering from sunburns since there are many symptoms like swelling of the legs, red skin, blisters, fever, nausea and chills. Another symptom of sunburn is skin peeling. As a matter of a fact, this is actually the first line of defense against skin cancer. Even though skin peeling will go away when the sunburn does there are some things a person can do to prevent the sunburn from peeling.
How to prevent sunburn from peeling
The first thing a person can do is avoid sun exposure. If a person is going to be exposed for a longer period of time, he or she should apply sunscreen before leaving the house. The sunscreen should be at least SPF 15 and it should be applied to the skin again in 2 hours. Clothes that protect from the sun are an excellent option as well.
Another thing a person can do in order to avoid or just reduce sunburn peeling is to keep the skin lubricated. A person can use either aloe vera lotion that contains sun block or any other moisturizing lotion. Apple cider vinegar should be applied to the affected area in order to maintain the moistness of the skin. Blisters and peeling are prevented in this way.
Baking soda dissolved in water is another remedy a person can use to cool the skin off. If there is no baking soda, a person can use epsom salts as well when making a compress.
When a person wants to get rid of the pain and reduce the inflammation, he or she should use Aspirin. The Aspirin should be taken after 24 hours since the person got the sunburn.
Essential oils like lavender and chamomile are also used in the prevention of skin peeling.
A very important thing that should not be forgotten is the importance of water drinking. A person should drink a lot of water because it will keep the skin hydrated.
