Nausea as a symptom

Nausea is a very common symptom of a number of conditions, and it is one of the most frequent side effects of the majority of medications, which is a reason why it can be very difficult to diagnose the real cause of it sometimes. It is very uncomfortable, and frequently accompanied by vomiting, but the cases in which nausea indicates some dangerous condition are extremely rare. In most of the cases, it does not last longer than 48 hours, and no medical help is needed. However, if it persists after two days, if bouts of nausea and vomiting last for more than a month, or if a patient is losing weight along with it, the doctor should be consulted.

In cases when patients experience signs of dehydrations, headaches, or if they vomit blood, medical help is necessary as soon as possible, since these signs indicate a more serious condition. The same applies for the cases of nausea that are followed by the symptoms such as pain in the chest and abdomen, fainting, high fever and blurred vision.

Herbs which are helpful in the treatment of nausea

Ginger is a very useful herb when it comes to nausea, and the same goes for the supplements made of this herb. It is beneficial for the irritated membranes, tone of the muscle tissues of the digestive tract, and due to the volatile oils that it contains, it is beneficial for the digestion rate in the stomach as well. However, the use of ginger and ginger supplements is not safe for everyone, particularly for those with low blood platelet count and problems with blood clotting.

Peppermint is another herb that is beneficial for those who suffer from nausea, and it either prevents or eases spasms and cramping in the intestinal tract. Just like ginger, it can also be consumed safely during pregnancy.

Goldenseal is used in cases when nausea is not a result of pregnancy, as well as in cases when the two previously mentioned herbs do not work well enough. This herb can also be found in the form of a pill, and it is beneficial for stomach and liver at the same time.

Besides these, there is a number of other herbs that are very helpful with nausea, and some of them are basil, black pepper, catnip, clove, cinnamon, fennel, galangal, lady’s mantle, lemon balm, sage, tangerine peel, valerian, and wild yam.
