Is there a way to make healthy peanut butter cookies?

People often tend to connect eating healthy with giving up on basically all delicious sweets and desserts, but that does not necessarily have to be the case. Sometimes, all it takes is to simply find a more suitable alternative for those extremely unhealthy ingredients. Luckily for many fans of peanut butter cookies, there is a healthier and more nutritious alternative to the regular unhealthy kind, and although it is a bit different from the ones that everybody’s used to, they still taste quite well. All it takes is a little getting used to, but the gain is double!

Which ingredients are to be switched with their healthier alternatives?

Basically, all the regular ingredients have their healthier alternatives, but some of the biggest problems in regular peanut butter cookies are flour and sugar. Switching flour is quite simple, as there are many healthier alternatives to it. Whole wheat pastry flour might just be the best choice, because it preserves the original color and texture of the cookie, and it is considered to be quite healthy. Another kind of flour that can be used is spelt flour. It is just as healthy, except that it makes the cookies seem a bit more baked than usually. But that is not a big issue, and this kind of flour is a good enough substitute for those who choose it for whatever reason. On the other hand, the kind of flour that should be avoided is the white whole wheat flour because it sucks out all the moisture from the cookie that makes it juicy and delicious, leaving it too dry.

A bigger problem than flour is finding the right substitute for the sugar used to make the cookies. Many alternatives, although healthy, are just not sweet enough, so there is really no point in making these cookies at all. However, there is one way to sweeten the cookies and make them taste nothing short of delicious. This is done by sweetening them with maple syrup.

Healthy peanut butter cookies recipe

Making these cookies starts off with taking two bowls and putting two cups of flour, a teaspoon of baking soda and a pinch of nice quality sea salt in one, and mixing a cupful of peanut butter, another one of maple syrup, one third of a cup of extra virgin olive oil and a bit more than one teaspoon of vanilla extract in the other. One thing that it’s important to mention is that the peanut butter should be organic and containing the smallest amount of oil possible. The next thing to do is to put these two mixtures together and stir until they are just starting to blend together. When this is done, cookies are ready to be baked. Finally, they can be sprinkled with chopped nuts or flaky salt.
