Our back area is considered to be one of the most important parts of our body since it carries our entire weight and helps us perform numerous tasks. However, this hard and demanding assignment of this body part, makes it quite susceptible to injuries, most of which can result in movement problems and pain, even complete immobility in some cases. Also, back injury is one of the main reasons why people do not go to work.

Back and Back Pain

Fortunately for back pain sufferers, there are plenty of treatments which can result with complete recovery. Usually, proper stretches and bends, combined with some simple treatment are all you need in order to overcome your back issues.

However, taking into consideration that our back pain is most commonly triggered by factors such as poor posture, sudden jerking movements, falls, or some diseases, there are plenty of prevention steps we can take in order to make our back less prone to these problems. All these causes may lead to numerous signs of back injury such as a herniated disk, sciatica, spinal stenosis, spondylosis or spondylolisthesis.

Conditions Triggering Back Pain

Once the disk in the spine presses on a nerve, it leads to an above mentioned condition called a herniated disk. On the other hand, herniated disk can further press the sciatic nerve, causing a condition named sciatica. Furthermore, when arthritis affects the back, pinching the nerves around the spinal cord due to bone overgrowth, this is a phenomenon called spinal stenosis. Finally, once the vertebrae of the backbone slip forward, they trigger a condition called spondylolisthesis.

Regardless of the condition behind the back pain, resting is often a part of the treatment, along with specially designed stretches and exercises, suitable for these purposes.

Exercises and Activities for Back Pain Relief

Yoga is one of the most popular exercises for treating back pain. However, you should seek help from a qualified physiotherapist who has specialized in yoga. Yoga itself is designed to help the body overcome certain problems and it contains exercises which strengthen the body and get rid of pain/discomfort, preventing these from returning.

Additionally, massages, heat and ice application, ultrasound, electrical stimulation and many other approaches, all can be more than beneficial when it comes to helping people overcome their back pain or any condition which might be causing it. Sometimes, surgery may be inevitable path towards successful treatment.

Finally, by avoiding high heels, correcting your posture and properly lifting and bending your body, you can decrease occurrence of injuries significantly.

Yet, if the pain and discomfort fail to disappear despite your efforts, seek further medical assistance and have the problem looked into.
