Many older people lead a constant battle with back pain but this condition is also known to affect younger adults and even children. There are many different reasons leading to painful sensations in the back and some of them could cause several months of back pain misery.

The most common causes of back pain are fractures, sciatica, spinal stenosis, spondyloarthropathy and degenerative diseases of discs. However, factors which may contribute to this pain are different strains and sprains, caused by improperly lifting heavy objects or pulling/pushing something heavy. Twisting of the spine and constant sneezing or coughing may also lead to painful back.

Physical trauma of the back caused by vertebral fractures is one of the most common causes of back pain. Spondylosis or degenerative disc disease is also something that could affect the back and provoke pain in any part of the spine. Spondyloarthropathy is actually a group of similar rheumatic diseases. Patients suffering from these diseases often experience lack of rheumatoid factor in the blood and inflammation of the spine and sacroiliac joints, which may cause joint pain. These spondyloarthropathy diseases are usually inherited from parents. Spinal stenosis is a condition affecting older people, causing narrowing of the spinal canal and provoking back pains. Irritation of the sciatic nerve or sciatica is yet another reason that could be associated with pain in the back.

Home Remedies for Back Pain

Proper rest for several hours every day may relieve different pains, especially constant pain you are feeling in the back. Sleeping on a firm mattress on your sides may also be helpful, as well as some warm baths or showers. Some people claim that hot compresses have relieved their back pain. If you want to try this, use them once a day for 10 minutes.

Some people might have back pain due to excess weight, so try to achieve or maintain your ideal weight to relieve the pain.

Exercise and Drinks for Painful Back

To release some of the pressure from your back try strolling a bit after sitting for a long period of time. Take a short break and walk a little, to relieve the pain. Back exercises and some yoga asanas (postures) performed regularly have proven to work efficiently against back pain.

Massaging painful area with mustard oil could be helpful. People are also advised to drink a glass of warm milk with some honey every morning or a mixture of a lemon and 2 tablespoons of salt, two times a day, since these should help you relieve back pain.

Back pain might not respond to any of the above mentioned home remedies. If that is the case, consult your doctor and you will receive proper treatment.
