In most cases, it is an injury to the muscle or a ligament that causes back pain. However, there are other things that may cause sudden back pain.

Muscle sprain

These injuries occur because of bad posture, bending or lifting heavy objects and it is mostly athletes and dancers who suffer from these injuries.

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve gets inflamed. This particular nerve stretches from the lower back to the legs. Sciatica pain is a sudden sharp pain that is usually felt in only one part of the body.
