Are you worried about weight gain but still suffering from terrible pregnancy cravings that would have you eat all the time if you could? The obvious answer is healthy snacks. What are the healthiest snacks for pregnant women that are also likely to get rid of your cravings?
Savory snack ideas for pregnant women
Hummus and pita bread may not be right for you if you are looking for a low-calorie snack, but it's very healthy and some say that chickpeas make your skin look better! Guacamole and tortilla chips are another great option, because avocados contain lots of antioxidants and good fats. It's also really tasty. A boiled egg is another good healthy snack option, full of proteins! If you have morning sickness in your first couple of trimesters of pregnancy, a protein-rich breakfast sometimes helps reduce it. A good salad can be truly satisfying, especially with a great dressing like honey-mustard, or homemade mayonnaise.
Naturally sweet snacks!
Raisins are an old favorite with toddlers. Get yours used to them while he or she is still in utero, and enjoy them yourself too! Fruit salads can contain pretty much anything, including kiwis, oranges, pears, strawberries, melon, and even cucumber goes very nicely. If fruit salad sounds boring to you, add a dollop of proper whipped cream. As the mom of a boy with a terrible sweet tooth, I know how hard it can be to find something that stops the whining :). It may sound silly, but one of our favorites is "banana ice cream".
Why the inverted commas? Because it's frozen, mashed bananas with nothing else added. But believe me, it's tasty and you'll probably like it too. Ants on a log is celery with peanut butter and raisins. It's great, and combines sweet and savory! Making your own cereal bars with dried fruits and honey isn't hard, and may just send those cravings packing.
