There are numerous different types of saline nasal sprays and they are commonly used for a certain process called nasal irrigation. A good thing about saline nasal sprays is that they can be prepared at home using certain simple ingredients. Sinus infection is a certain medical condition which tends to affect a rather large number of people of all age groups, everywhere around the world. The infection is commonly characterized by a runny or stuffy nose and these symptoms may also sometimes be accompanied by a reduced sense of smell and taste, painful sensations in the teeth and jaw and cough which usually get worse during the night. In most cases, the patient finds it rather difficult to breathe through the nose, which may further complicate the condition as it may lead to different sorts of sleep disorders. Saline nasal spray is one of the best and most efficient ways of relieving congestion and stuffiness which are always associated with the sinus infection. The spray moisturizes the affected nasal passages which tend to get rather dry because of the infection. By doing so, the spray is also very efficient in lessening the inflammatory conditions which affect the mucous membranes.
Saline Nasal Spray Recipe
One can easily prepare saline nasal spray at home by using some simple ingredient. In order to prepare it, one needs a cup of distilled water, a quarter of a tablespoon of baking soda and a quarter of a tablespoon of iodine-less salt. The water needs to be warmed up by a heater before adding the baking soda and iodine-less salt. The ingredients need to be stirred properly until they get completely dissolved. The solution needs to cool down before being poured in a clean nasal spray bottle. The bottle should not be shaken, in order to avoid the formation of bubbles.
How to Use Saline Nasal Spray
Saline solution may be poured in a neti pot. The sufferer needs to lower the head over a sink and tilt the head to one side so the mouth of the neti pot can be placed into the opposite nostril. After pouring the water, one needs to breathe through the mouth in order to drain the solution from the nostril. Blowing the nose gently and repeating the procedure with the other nostril is the next step. The procedure is similar, although much simpler when the patient uses a nasal pump bottle for the irrigation.
