Bad posture can lead to serious back, neck and shoulder problems. If you spend hours in front of a computer screen, maintaining correct posture will be very important for you. Keeping your posture correct is not difficult and should be undertaken by anyone exposed to activities that can lead to back problems.

How to correct bad posture

Adjusting ones posture takes time. Posture will not be corrected overnight. Some basic guidelines should be followed. Whilst sitting, make sure to keep your feet flat on the floor. Align the body with the back of the seat and try to keep the knees at the same level as the hips. Try to keep the shoulders straight and avoid slouching or leaning forward.

Whilst standing, try to keep your head in a straight position. Push the shoulders backwards and the knees straight. As with sitting, try to avoid slouching and remember to keep the back as straight as possible.

Posture should also be correct when you are asleep. Place a medium thickness pillow under your head and sleep in a position that maintains the curve of the back. Try not to hug your knees. It is also important to employ the use of a good quality mattress.
