Stiff neck causes

There are many things that can cause a person to have a stiff neck, which is not a very dangerous condition, but it can be annoying and troublesome to a person while performing their daily activities.

Some of the main causes include poor neck posture while at work, especially if you are staring at a computer all day, poor posture while sleeping, stress, car accidents, especially ones that involved whiplash, and injuries suffered in contact sports like football and hockey.

As far as the symptoms of a stiff neck that a person should look for, they are all fairly obvious.

When a person has a stiff neck they will not be able to move their necks much. Limited motion of the neck is the main symptom, and a person will probably have a hard time moving their heads left and right or up and down.

It could also be very hard for a person to find a comfortable position to sleep in. Pain in the neck, upper back and shoulders can also be experienced when a person has a stiff neck.

They might also be experiencing muscles spasms, especially in the upper back.

Many people could also get fevers and headaches which could mean that the cause of the stiff neck may be meningitis.

Remedies

There are many things you can do at home to try and get rid of the stiffness of the neck.

When you are taking a shower, make sure that the water is hot and let it hit the back of our neck while doing gentle and slow neck stretches. Move the neck slowly up and down, bringing your chin to your chest and then tilting the head back. You can also rotate the neck slowly in a circular motion as well to get the muscles moving.

The purpose of these stretches is to loosen up the neck muscles and increase their range of motion.

It is also a good idea to use an ice pack on the neck as a remedy for stiff neck. The ice will decrease he inflammation of the neck muscles and give a numbing effect as well. It is important for the ice to not have direct contact with the skin, so keep it wrapped in a towel and make sure not to apply the cold therapy for more than 15 minutes at a time.
