Blushing problem facts

When people's cheeks turn red and their heart starts to beat more faster, those are the signs of blushing. This is an action people cannot control. While blushing is a normal reaction and it happens to everyone, excessive blushing is not. That may be a problem. Emotions like shame, embarrassment and modesty are some of the known triggers of blushing. When mental attitudes overlap, embarrassment instantly occurs. It is accompanied by the inability to function properly. Blushing is usually present with the younger population. When a person's mind gets confused it triggers the sympathetic nervous system. Because of this the vasodilators are aroused and that leads to the expansion of the peripheral capillaries. Due to this, more blood comes into the face because the capillaries have expanded.

Difference between blushing and excessive blushing

It is a normal thing for a person to blush from time to time and in some specific situations but there are people who tend to blush more often. For them blushing happens almost on a regular basis. The name for this problem is idiopathic craniofacial erythema. Scientists have come to the conclusion that there are a couple of reasons why this happens.

Causes of blushing and excessive blushing

Even though there is a difference between normal blushing and excessive blushing, some causes are the same.

Embarrassment is the most common cause of both types of blushing. Exercise is another thing that can make a person's face turn red but is more due to the fact that it is flushed and not blushed.Some feelings which are felt more intensively can cause a face to go red. Some of those feelings are sadness, happiness and frustration. However, a face may blush as well when a person laughs uncontrollably. High blood pressure may cause blushing as well. Menopause and spicy food may cause normal blushing as well.

In cases of excessive blushing, embarrassment may be the cause again. However, this time it does not need any particular reason. Phobia of social interaction is a major problem. People tend to blush without any chance of controlling it in situations when there are a lot of people in a room, for instance. However, blushing can even be a a symptom for some other disease like rosacea for instance.

Treating a blushing problem

Most people with excessive blushing are advised to undergo the cognitive behavior therapy. This will change the way people think and help them feel more comfortable in large crowds of people. Meditation is another good option because it lessens the anxiety. Of course, a person can talk to a doctor and get some drugs prescribed. A surgical procedure called Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy should be considered as the last option.
