Toxic mold syndrome is a horrible illness that may affect people who are living in buildings contaminated with toxic mold. Due to this, the condition is sometimes called sick building syndrome. Early symptoms of toxic mold syndrome can be mixed with flu or a common cold. However, as long as exposure continues, the symptoms become more serious. Toxic mold affects the nervous, immune, respiratory and gastrointestinal system and skin. Symptoms caused by toxic mold exposure include memory loss, lack in concentration, lethargy, dizziness, mood swings, anxiety, and even sudden onset of personality disorder or any other mental problem. Toxic mold syndrome is also associated with shortness of breath, abdominal pain, sore throat, ear and eye infections, cough, sinus problems, skin rash, fatigue, red eyes, pain and numbness in extremities and nosebleeds. Hair loss, rectal bleeding, tremors, fibromyalgia, asthma, allergic reactions, urinary tract infections, impotence, infertility and bleeding in lungs are some of the serious symptoms of toxic mold syndromes. Toxic mold syndrome also increases the risk of developing lupus, tuberculosis, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome and Epstein-Barr virus. Toxic mold syndrome can complicate the pregnancy, cause sudden infant death and serious neurological problems in children.

Symptoms related to toxic mold syndrome will go away as soon as the affected person removes toxic mold from their home. This can be done by dehumidifying the house, repairing water problems, using the air purifiers and cleaning the ventilation ducts.
