Reiki is a spiritual practice developed in Japan. Unlike some other eastern spiritual practices, Reiki is a relatively young discipline, developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. Reiki is becoming increasingly popular among people searching for an alternative or complement to the mainstream medicine. This practice is focused on transferring healing energy in the form of life force, or ki, through the palms of the practitioner. At the initial level Reiki practitioner is able to heal himself and others. Next step is Second Degree mastery, where a Reiki practitioner becomes able to heal others distantly using Reiki symbols. The highest degree is a Master level at which a practitioner becomes able to teach and adjust others to Reiki.
