Oily skin can be very annoying because it requires constant care. It is caused by overproduction of oil in the sebaceous glands. The skin cannot use all that oil and part of it stays on the surface and makes the skin look shiny and even greasy.

Oily skin can be caused by many factors. For some people it is hereditary. In some, it is result of a diet based on greasy and sugary foods. Hormones, smoking, overuse of cosmetic products, living in humid areas can all cause oily appearance of the skin.

This type of skin is more prone to acne because dirt particles and bacteria stick to the oil, penetrate the pores and cause infections.

Luckily, there are ways to keep oily skin fresher and cleaner and to reduce the amount of oil produced in the glands. Several home made masks can be very efficient in that.

Banana mask of oily skin

Banana mask reduces excess oil, smoothens the skin, reduces fine lines, and deeply nourishes the skin.

It is made from one ripe banana, half a spoon of honey and a few drops of lemon juice. The ingredients are mixed in a bowl and applied with fingertips on clean, dry face. The mask should be massaged into the skin using two fingers for two minutes. After this time, it is rinsed away with lukewarm water and the skin is pat-dried and moisturized. It is recommended to use this mask twice a week for best results.

Sandalwood mask for oily skin

This mask is used both as a conditioner and as an antiseptic. It prevents infection of the skin by cleaning it thoroughly and removing possible bacteria. The mask is made with one tablespoon of sandalwood powder and some rose water.

It is important to clean the face thoroughly with cleansing milk, facial wash or tonic before applying the mask. The mask is made my mixing sandalwood powder with rose water until it is thick but still soft. The mixture is applied to the face in a thick layer and let dry naturally. When it is completely dry, it should be rinsed with lukewarm water. The face might feel very dry after rinsing the mask off so it is recommended to use a moisturizer.

Oatmeal skin mask

Oatmeal is a natural scrub, it removes dead skin cells and cleans the pores, which is important for oily skin that often suffers from clogged pores. The mask is very easy to make, it requires two spoons of oatmeal, a few drops of lemon and enough rose water to make a smooth, thick paste. This mask should be applied to clean skin and left on for 15 minutes before rinsing it off.

Yeast mask

Yeast is very beneficial for skin and it helps remove blackheads, whiteheads and other skin blemishes. A yeast mask can be made from one tablespoon of brewer’s yeast and one tablespoon of plain yogurt. It should stay on for 20 minutes before rinsing and following with a moisturizing cream.
