Restless leg syndrome (RLS)

Restless leg syndrome is a condition that can affect anyone and at any age, but it deteriorates as people grow older. People who suffer from this condition have incredibly uncomfortable feeling in legs as they lie down, or even as they are sitting, but this sensations disappears after they get up or move around. The symptoms are stronger at night, which may cause distress, problems with sleep and other problems.

Causes of restless leg syndrome are impossible to identify in the majority of the cases, but in some people, this problem can be hereditary, or it can develop during pregnancy. In a number of cases, it is a following part of other conditions such as iron deficiency, kidney failure and peripheral neuropathy. There is no cure to RLS, but it is possible to treat the symptoms, or even the underlying cause of it, if there is any. When it comes to the treatment of symptoms, the first method that is suggested refers to the change of the lifestyle, and if that does not give any results, then the person is suggested to start taking some medications.

Homeopathic remedies for restless leg syndrome

Regarding the remedies that are offered by homeopaths, it is important to say that even though, it might take some time to find the one that is the most helpful for a particular case, they are not dangerous for a person’s health and they do not cause any side effects. However, it is definitely necessary to pay attention to the recommended dosage.

Some of the homeopathic remedies that are used in the treatment of this syndrome are aconitum napellus, arsenicum album, ignatia, rhus toxicodendron and zincum metallicum.

Aconitum napellus soothes tingling and piercing pain in the legs, and helps people fall asleep and relax, while arsenicum album is intended for those who are exhausted and feel weakness and trembling sensations in their legs.

Ignatia helps in cases of spasms and twitching of muscles, and it helps a person to sleep better and more peacefully, whereas rhus toxicodendron is suggested to those who have the need to move constantly from one place to another since that way they feel better, and to those who are unable to remain in bed lying down.

Zincum metallicum proved to be effective in very serious cases of restless legs syndrome, in which those who suffer from this problem need to move legs all the time in order to relieve the pain and the uncomfortable feeling.
