Wrinkles seem to be an unavoidable sign of aging, along with some other, less cosmetic signs. Some people are more prone to wrinkles and for them they start in thirties, while the other, more lucky ones have less and they seem to “wear” them better. Today the aesthetic medicine offers many solutions for wrinkles but most of them are quite invasive and some are downright unhealthy. There are also many topical creams that promise to reduce or prevent wrinkles, but it can be hard to tell which ones work and which do not.

Causes of wrinkles

Human skin becomes less elastic with age and it loses some other features as well, like softness and moisture. It becomes rough and uneven. With age, the collagen and elastin in the connective tissues of the skin loosen up, dissipate or decrease in number, leading to lined, creased and saggy skin.

Other factors, besides age, which can lead to wrinkles include exposure to sun, pollution, smoking, improper diet, vitamin E deficiency, substance abuse, alcoholism, stress, and weight loss.

Home and herbal remedies for wrinkles

Some of the best home remedies for wrinkles are the simple ones, like eggs. Simply applying beaten egg whites to the skin and letting them dry off before rinsing can greatly improve the appearance of skin and reduce wrinkles.

Coconut oil applied directly to the skin is another simple way to treat wrinkles. A core of a pineapple rubbed to the skin can work too.

A slightly more complicated but very effective remedy is prepared by emptying the contents of three vitamin E capsules in a mixture of two spoons of yogurt, half a spoon of honey and half a spoon of lemon juice. The mixture is well-stirred and applied to the face with a clean cotton ball and left for 10 minutes before rinsing.

A paste made from a little turmeric powder and sugarcane juice is applied to the face and left to dry. This remedy is believed to be quite effective for both prevention and reduction of wrinkles.

Applying the juice of green pineapples and apples every day for about 10 to 15 minutes is effective against wrinkles but also as a remedy for dry, cracked skin.

Eye wrinkles and dark circles can be repaired by pressing the round side of a chilled spoon to the eyes.

A mixture of two spoons of vodka, one spoon of fennel seeds and one teaspoon of honey should be prepared, left for three days and used as a toner afterward.

A great herbal remedy against wrinkles can be made from equal amounts of coriander, lavender and aniseeds covered in boiling water. The face should be steamed with the vapors from this mixture for 20 minutes. The results should show after only 10 days.
