Herbs for Wound Healing

Aloe Vera has been shown rather efficient in elimination of inflammation. It can also effectively stimulate the repair of the damaged cells. Aloe Vera can be taken either orally or applied topically.

There is one powerful extract obtained from herb called gotu kola. It can be remarkably good at wound healing. They are called asiaticosides and they can boost level of antioxidants so the wound healing can be accelerated and repairing of the damaged connective tissue can be easier.

One more herb that is good for wounds is horse chestnut. Its compound known as aescin fights against inflammation and effectively eliminates edema. It can be of great assistance after sports injuries and surgical procedures. It can be used topically to reduce the symptoms of acute sprains.

Chamomile is a herb that can be used in a combination with corticosteroids or antihistamines. This combination may accelerate the wound healing process especially in older people. Ulcers that develop as a consequence of blood stasis are effectively treated with chamomile. Even people who have had tattoos removed can benefit from chamomile.

Honey has been used for many years in different purposes. Topical application of honey can be used even in case of wounds. Honey can destroy some of the infective agents that can lead to infections of the wound. Fresh unrefined honey if applied directly onto the wound can lead to significant relief. This ritual has to be performed twice a day in a period of 21 days.

Some doctors believe that arnica is the most potential herb in wound healing. It can only be used topically as if it enters the body it can cause poisoning.

Calendula flowers act as mighty antiseptics and anti-inflammatory agents. One table spoon of these flowers is steeped into hot water and left for 15 minutes. After that the cloth that is going to be placed right onto the wound is dipped into the already prepared liquid. Calendula can be perfectly combined with chamomile.

Echinacea ointments and creams are a perfect solution for minor wound healing.

Comfrey is an excellent herb which can successfully reduce bruising. It is also great at wound healing. Additionally comfrey can stop bleeding and reduce the process of inflammation.

Chaparral is used in small wounds. It possesses anti-inflammatory properties and can reduce pain. Basically patient's wound is covered with cloth that has been dipped into the chaparral tea. Additionally, the cloth can be soaked into the oil preparation of this plant. This herb is also available in a form of powder.

Bladderwrach contains alginic acid. This acid can be synthesized into calcium alginate which is a mighty promoter of wound healing.

And finally, the leaves of tea tree or tea tree oil can be used but only moderately.
