The hair loss issue

The loss of hair has always been the most frowned at sore spot of men worldwide. If it happens that a male starts losing his hair in his late twenties and mid-thirties, then it is quite often compared to a catastrophe and can have long lasting and extremely severe consequences, in greater part on a person’s self-confidence and self-esteem.

But, medicine has its ways of dealing even with this, to many males, insurmountable obstacle and it comes in the shape of Propecia. What numerous already completed clinical studies have shown is that this remedy’s effectiveness goes as high as 99% when male pattern baldness is in question. Coming back to the process of hair loss, it is known that as many as millions of men across the world lose their hair on a daily basis. Yet another confirmed fact is that the life expectancy of a single hair is estimated to be approximately five years. Once this period has passed, the old hair normally gets replaced by a new and younger one. However, in case of a person befallen with male pattern baldness, those hairs that have died out are, unfortunately, not replaced by new vital ones.

Propecia under the microscope

One of the drugs already approved by the America’s Food and Drug Administration, Finasteride, is also known to general public by the brand name of Propecia. The most effective usage of the drug in question is in treating the infamous male pattern baldness. It is known to have an immense potential and ability to decrease the hair loss rate, as well as initiate the growth of new hair. Also, it is considered to be at the peak of its effectiveness when loss of hair is discovered in its earlier stages. One important warning relates to the fact that it is not supposed to be employed either by women, or children. The downside is that those men who have come to the last stages of the entire hair loss process are most likely not to see any improvement by using this specific means, i.e. drug.

Clinical trials significance

As already mentioned, the completed clinical trials have given evidence to the fact that this drug’s effectiveness rate can reach the 99% mark. When it comes to the participants in those clinical trials, the greatest majority yielded most positive final results. Furthermore, those persons who employed Propecia managed to bring further loss of the hair to a stop, and have their new hair grow once again on their scalps. In order to fully investigate the effectiveness of this drug, the research study lasted for five years with 1,553 men included in the trials. What these trials have also revealed is that those who opted for Propecia were able to experience a significant difference – 277 hairs in one-inch diameter after the treatment. The greatest majority of the participants, at the end of the research trials, expressed only their satisfaction and gratitude, with only a small number of them suffering from certain side effects as erectile dysfunction and similar sex-related problems. Among often claimed side effects are also weight gain, which has not been confirmed, as well as minor depression and anxiety, which do not apply for the greater majority of men who decided to opt for Propecia-based hair loss treatment therapy.
