The effect of green tea

The effect of the green tea on weight loss has led to its usage in regular diet of huge number of people around the world. Green tea helps in weight loss by boosting metabolism, regulating blood sugar level, suppressing appetite and it is used as a replacement for high-caloric morning beverage drinks. It is not a magic tool, but it definitely can give impetus to efforts invested in the process of weight loss and improving overall health.

Green Tea Speeds up Metabolism

A study from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition confirmed that green tea extract causes significant increase in energy consumption (metabolism boosting). Scientists have also found that in 24 hours, green tea extract speeds up metabolic in rate of 4%. These effects are consequence of high concentration of catechin polyphenols in green tea. They intensify fat oxidation and thermogenesis (burning calories).

Green Tea Inhibits Fat Absorption and Helps Glucose Regulation

The scientists have found that catechins in green tea prevent transforming glucose into fat cells. Also, green tea acts as a glucose regulator by slowing the rise in blood sugar after meals. This prevents high increase in insulin (lots of insulin in the blood leads to accumulation of fat).

Green Tea Reduces the Appetite

Scientists at the University of Chicago found that green tea causes weight loss in rats up to 21%. Rats lost their appetite and consumed up to 60% less food after 7 days of injecting green tea.

Green Tea Reduces the Calories in the Morning Drinking Coffee

More and more people in the morning drink different potions such as mocha, cappuccino, frappe, with milk or sugar. These calories have a devastating effect on waistline. If person does not want to take so many calories in the morning, and still wants to get his/her caffeine fix, she/he should try to replace his/her usual drink with a cup of green tea.

How Much Green Tea One Should Drink to Achieve Metabolism Boosting Effects?

Experts opinions vary, but they generally agree that 3-5 cups of green tea per day is optimal. In this way, person will burn an extra 70 calories a day which leads to weight loss of 3-4 pounds per year. However, 3-5 cups a day can be too much for some people, so they should consider using green tea extract, capsule or patch.

Green Tea is Not a Magic Potion

While some argue that a green tea is the only way to lose weight, most accurate term is balance. Person shouldn't eat 5000 calories a day and then drink a cup of green tea to make it all go away - it will not happen. A healthy diet and increased physical activity should go along with green tea.

Side Effects

For patients with heart problems, high blood pressure or the ones who are sensitive to stimulants, caffeine in green tea may not be the best solution. In these cases they should use capsules which are made from green tea where caffeine is removed, so that person can still enjoy the benefits of tea without the caffeine.
