Introduction

We often wonder how someone who eats tons of food can be so skinny, because we all have friends who eat much more when compared to others and still look skinny. How is that possible? Well, since we are all different, our bodies function differently. The main reason for our body weights lies in metabolic rates. Each one of us has its own specific metabolic rate and that determines how fast the body will use entered foods. When someone has fast metabolism, he or she will probably be skinny. However, even if being skinny, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be careful about what you eat or how active you are. Your body needs to be nicely shaped, which is very hard without proper food and exercises.

Why do we have different body shapes and sizes?

The shape of our body and the weight can vary due to metabolic rates. Metabolic rates are not always the same in one person, since they alter as we get older. Older people have increased levels of growth hormones and that is what causes changes of their body shapes. Sex plays very important role in metabolic rates, because males have hormone called testosterone that speeds up their metabolic rate and enhances muscle growth. Females, on the other hand, have hormones called estrogen and progesterone, which don’t do the same for women’s body as testosterone does for men’s. That doesn’t mean that women always have slow metabolic rates. There are some periods in women’s life when their metabolism jumps up high, and that is during pregnancy and breastfeeding. There are also phases in women’s life when the metabolism excessively slows down, which usually happens in the menopause and that is why women should be more physically active at this stage of life. If they do exercises on a daily basis, they will gain muscle tissue and enhance their metabolism as well.

What time of the day is best for doing exercises?

We have no evidence that it is better to do exercises on a particular part of the day. All that matters is that you do them. You can do exercises at any time of the day, whenever you have the time and the desire. It is important that you do them on a regular basis and you will see and feel the results soon. Exercises should be done three to five times weekly, in order to notice changes on your body fast.
