Introduction to age spots on hands
When people start getting spots of discoloration on their hands, they usually just associate them with the aging process. However, aging alone is not responsible for these things that we usually refer to as “age spots” on the hands.
These spots usually occur when a person has exposed their skin to sun far too much. When this occurs, the skin begins to produce too much melanin, which is what causes the brown spots on the skin and particularly the hands.
They appear mostly on parts of the skin that are most commonly exposed to the sun, such as, the hands, face and feet.
However, there are treatments that can be used in order to get rid of these unsightly spots on the hands.
Treatment
The obvious, but most expensive, treatment is laser removal. In this procedure, the laser rays will pass through the skin and lighten the brown spots over time.
It is very expensive, but it is usually the most effective treatment and mostly painless. Other benefits of this laser treatment is that it is likely to leave less scarring than other treatments and the hands will take less time to heal as well. Depending on how numerous the spots on the hands are, it is possible that people will have to go in for laser treatment multiple times, which increases the cost even more.
It is best to consult a dermatologist before committing to laser treatment, however.
Another method of removing these age spots on the hands is through chemical peels.
Acids such as liquid nitrogen will be applied to the hands. These acids kills the cells on the skin and with this, remove the brown spots and make the skin turn pink again as the new skin is revealed.
The skin will go back to its normal color in several days, but people must be very careful when opting for this type of treatment and realize that it is very probably that it will leave scars on the hands.
There are also many creams available on the market that can help get rid of these age spots.
However, they will only work if the spots are fresh and have just begun to appear. Creams that include natural ingredients such as lemon can be used on a regular basis, but there are other creams that are harsher and contain chemicals that should probably be avoided. In any case, it is best to consult with a dermatologist before choosing what cream to use.
