There are actually two types of mouth cancer.
Melanoma affects the outer part of the oral cavity while lymphoma affects the inner part of the oral cavity. Lymphoma usually occurs around the tonsils and the tongue base and it can also be affiliated with the painful sensations of the palate. Numerous other medical conditions and factors may be the cause of painful sensations in the roof of the mouth.
Those may include allergic reactions, smoking, ear infections, chewing tobacco, tooth abscess, spicy foods, mouth ulcers, nutrient deficiencies, diabetes, canker sores, menopause, herpes, oral thrush, and dry mouth. Yogurt, vitamin C and vitamin E can be helpful in relieving the pain.
