It is not a serious condition but it is largely unknown what could be the exact cause of this medical condition. Painful sensations in the roof of the mouth may be associated with numerous different types of infections as well.
When the infection gets the appropriate treatment, the painful sensations get resolved as well. Both bacterial and viral infections may be involved in such medical problems.
The most common ones include sinus infections, staph, common cold and strep throat. One of the most severe types of medical conditions that can be associated with painful sensations in the roof of the mouth is the mouth cancer.
There are actually two types of mouth cancer.
Melanoma affects the outer part of the oral cavity while lymphoma affects the inner part of the oral cavity. Lymphoma usually occurs around the tonsils and the tongue base and it can also be affiliated with the painful sensations of the palate. Numerous other medical conditions and factors may be the cause of painful sensations in the roof of the mouth.
Those may include allergic reactions, smoking, ear infections, chewing tobacco, tooth abscess, spicy foods, mouth ulcers, nutrient deficiencies, diabetes, canker sores, menopause, herpes, oral thrush, and dry mouth. Yogurt, vitamin C and vitamin E can be helpful in relieving the pain.
