Scabies is the skin condition marked by extreme itching. This skin disorder can be effectively treated with different medicines. However, since some of these medicines can cause dangerous side effects one can use natural cure for scabies. Here we will deal with different treatment options for scabies.
Scabies Introduction
Scabies are highly contagious skin disorder that spreads through direct skin-to-skin contact. It is caused by a mite known as Sarcoptes scabiei. Attracted by the body’s smell and warmth, this mite burrows into the skin and lays 1-3 eggs every day. The female mite may keep laying eggs for up to 5 weeks. While depositing eggs, the mites create tunnels in the skin that appear like fine, dark lines.
Scabies cause intense itching that is typically worse at night. Red rash may appear anywhere on the body, but it is usually most obvious between fingers. In infants, scabies rash is apparent on the head, neck, palms and soles while in adults it occurs on the buttocks, elbows, genital area, wrist area and under breasts in females. Skin sores also develop in the areas that have been scratched. Over-The-Counter Cure for Scabies
There are different non-prescription creams and lotions that can help to cure scabies. Topical cream permethrin and lotion malathion are medicines containing insecticides. It is recommended to use permethrin first and if it does not give results then treat the skin with malathion. These medicines must be used strictly as directed. They should be applied to dry and cool skin from head and neck towards lower body parts. On the skin folds massage the medicine with a toothbrush. Permethrin should be left overnight and washed off while malathion should be left for 24 hours. This application should be repeated after 7 days. Both medicines can cause negative effects like burning sensation and skin irritation.
Over-the-counter chamomile lotion is recommended for treatment of itching. Oral antihistamines such as Diphenhydramine and hydroxizine can help to alleviate night itching. Non-prescription antibiotics can be used if bacterial infection occurs. Natural Treatment for Scabies
An excellent natural cure for scabies is neem oil. It helps to get rid off scabies mites naturally and at the same time it soothes the skin, lowers the pain, reduces the redness and inflammation and cures secondary infections.
Paste made of turmeric powder (Curcuma longa) and lemon juice can also help with scabies. This powder should be applied on the entire body and washed off after an hour. Repeat this once a day until the symptoms resolve. Evening primrose oil can be used instead of curcuma longa.
