Introduction to midlife crisis

When a person is in the midst of a midlife crisis, they will usually feel depressed, hopeless and have a serious case of low self-esteem. This affects between in between the age of 40 and 60 usually and can affect both men and women.

A midlife crisis will usually lead to irrational behavior in the search and pursuit of some change in the person’s life. They might quit their jobs or separate from their spouses without thinking about the possible consequences that such decisions will have in the long term.

It is a kind of emotional transition in which a person will feel the need to make, sometimes drastic, changes in their lives. It can be a very challenging period for some people and can even lead to serious emotional problems and onsets of depression.

The scale of the midlife crisis and the way it affects a person all depends on the individual and will vary in everyone. Symptoms

There are usual certain factors that will lead to such a crisis, and they are usually related to events or conditions in a person’s family and personal life. Some might have troubles with debt or divorce, or them might have a job that they no longer like.

It can also be caused by the death of a family member.

Some general symptoms include an overall feeling of unhappiness and a need for change, feeling bored with one’s life, suffocated by family and career commitments, and wanting to change these aspects of their lives.

Some people might seek new adventures and try do to something different with their lives, while others might seek a new and exciting relationship, whether physical or emotional. Some doubt that their spouse loves them anymore and feel a sense of separation and distance from loved ones.

Insecurity is another common symptom, as is anxiety, depression low self-esteem and worthlessness.

People might question their lives, the meaning of life in general, the existence of God. They might also wonder about death, fear old age and dying, and generally question their current situations in life.

Men will sometimes want to quit their jobs, spend money on expensive cars and other things that will make them feel younger, start exercising and caring about their physical appearance more or generally find new priorities in life.

They will sometimes find that they are less attracted to their wives and seek affairs, at the same time, losing interest in their families and home life.

Women can also lose interest in taking care of the family and have generally lower self-esteem. They might regret decisions such as staying at home to care for children instead of continuing with their careers.

While men will buy expensive toys, women will want to try and feel younger in a physical way, perhaps by getting a tattoo or plastic surgery.
