Acne

Acne are the most common problem in teenagers, but may also affect older adults. Usually, there is hormonal imbalance in their body, which along the overproduction of skin oil leads to clogged skin pores and pimples. The treatment depends on the severity of the condition. Doctors might prescribe acne creams, antibiotics, or in some cases even contraceptive pills.

Acne Treatment

Acne creams are used locally, on the acne affected skin. Creams are used to treat mild and moderate acne and might contain different substances. There are creams with salicylic acid, which usually contain about 0.5 to 2.0% of the active substance. Salicylic acid is an exfoliant, it regenerates the skin and should quickly resolve your acne. Other anti-acne creams usually contain about 2.5% of benzoyl peroxide.

Antibiotics are reserved for serious cases of acne. Antibiotic creams with erythromycin and clindamycin are used to treat whiteheads and blackheads pimples.

Isoretinoin (Accutane) is used if local acne creams and antibiotics don’t cure your skin. This medication is used to treat cystic acne and it is actually a synthetic form of vitamin A.

Birth control tablets are approved by the FDA for the treatment of acne caused by hormonal imbalance. These pills contain female hormones, progestin and estrogen, and balance the hormones in the body. Nevertheless, one should combine these pills with some other acne treatment.The last option to cure your skin from the acne is surgical procedure. Dermatologist will inject cortisone into the acne area and drain the infection. This procedure will also reduce inflammation caused by acne.

Acne Diet

If you want to cure acne, dermatologists advise eating plenty of vegetables. Those containing high amounts of antioxidants and vitamins should be good for your skin. You should eat: carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, cucumber, cabbage, celery, and radishes. You must also include fresh fruits into your daily menu. Use apples, oranges, avocado, grapefruit, grapes, etc.

Don’t forget the water. Proper hydration will ensure proper detoxification and there will be less harmful bacteria to cause acne. Recommended amount is about 8 glasses of water on a daily basis. Sometimes, your face might be sensitive to coffee and tea. In that case, these products should be avoided. Food rich in sugar may also worsen your skin condition, so don’t use those foods. Just to be sure, don’t eat too much fruits, because it can contain sugar as well. Dairy products, meat, fish or eggs might be responsible for acne aggravation. If you happen to know that some products cause worsening of your acne, avoid them.
