Herbal remedies for insomnia

Because of their calming and relaxing properties, some herbs are used to help people who are having problems with insomnia. Some of these herbs are lavender, chamomile and passion flower. Insomnia is a sleeping disorder. People who have it experience problems with both getting to sleep and maintaining that sleep. These people should avoid the intake of caffeine. Instead of caffeine, people should use herbal remedies to relax their body and mind.

Diet and lifestyle to aid good sleep

The first thing a person who is having trouble with sleeping should do is to expel things like caffeine, nicotine, energy drinks, alcohol and excessive fats and sugars from his or her diet. If that is not possible, a person should at least try to limit the intake of these substances. On the other hand, things like protein, complex carbohydrates, essential fats, fruit and vegetables should be a part of the diet. In addition to this, a person should consume more foods that contain large amounts of magnesium like almonds, dark leafy green vegetables, soybeans, whole grains and brewer's yeast. There are cases when insomnia is a symptom of some other disease. Diabetes and sleep apnea are only some of them. The best thing a person can do is to see a doctor. Psychologists agree that some of the reasons because of which insomnia occurs are anxiety, nervous tension and depression. A person should also avoid watching movies or playing video games before going to sleep. This is because the brain is then having a lot of information to process.

Chamomile as sleeping aid

Because of the fact that chamomile is a relaxant and spiroether is one of its substances, it is good for people who suffer from insomnia. Most people use chamomile in the form of tea, some 60 minutes before going to sleep.

Passion flower as the natural herbal tranquilizer

Passion flower has been in use for medical purposes for a long period of years. Even Aztecs have used it to ease sleeping problems. Apart from its power to ease nervous anxiety and irritability, another good thing about this flower is that it is not addictive. A person who is having problems with sleeping should drink two cups of passion flower tea in the evening.Valerian as a herbal remedy
People who suffer from insomnia, stress or just need to calm their mind consume valerian. However, there are some side effects from this herb like dizziness, mild indigestion and headache.

Lavender for insomnia relief

Lavender is best known for its scent because it has a soothing and calming effect. This is the reason why lavender is used for essential oils which are then used in sleeping pillows and even in a ceramic oil burner in the bedroom.
