Child's lunch box
Packing up healthy food in a child's lunch boxes is one thing, but making sure they actually eat the food is a completely different story. Children are known to stay away from most healthy foods as they do not look appealing enough and it is particularly difficult to have them eat the food when no one is around to ensure that. Luckily, there are some tricks that can make healthy lunches seem more interesting to children.

The importance of diversity

First of all, the most important thing to remember is to avoid repeating the same kind of meal over and over again as children will quickly grow really tired of it. Food diversity is very effective and the more frequently it happens, the bigger the bigger the chances that the child will really eat the lunch.

Take sandwiches for example, because they are the lunch that is most often included in the lunch box. Aside from the filling, changing the bread of the sandwich, which may not seem like it’s really important or even noticeable, has proven to be quite the opposite. Sometimes, the parents need not even bother with changing the filling every day if they make sure that the bread is visually different. That means making sandwiches in regular white bread, pitta bread, tortilla or bagel.

Another thing to try is to pack the filling and some bread sticks separately.

Making the lunch as amusing as possible

There are various ways to make the lunch entertaining and they do not include packing toys in the lunch box. One of the things that can be done is allowing the child to participate in the making of a very simple lunch, like a sandwich. There is no reason whatsoever as to why the child can’t participate in making the sandwich, choose the ingredients, wrap the tortilla or something like that. They will, without a doubt, want to try something they made themselves.

Another thing to do is make various shapes out of the sandwiches, like hearts, flowers or teddy bears. The children will not be able to resist those! All in all, the possibilities are endless and one can really allow oneself to be creative.

A use for their fingers

Another thing that children love to do while eating is use their fingers, particularly younger kids. Therefore, making them lunches that they will be able to hold between their two fingers is a very good idea.

That means leaving them mini sandwiches instead of regular ones, cutting their fruit and vegetables into small chunks and including nuts into the lunch box, to name a few. And to top that, including dip is a really good idea.

Not only do kids adore dipping food, but it will give those healthy foods an extra flavor and make the food taste more delicious.
