The main problem of slimming down after the age of fifties, or of the people of middle-age, is that it becomes more and more difficult with every year. The organism simply slows down its functions, and one of them is the dissolving of the fat. For example, the metabolic process of the body is not as fast as it is in younger people’s organisms, mostly because of the problem of losing the muscles, which affects the older people. In this case, the workout is recommended, so that one could return the lost muscle mass.
Also, introducing at least five meals during a day, instead of the regular three, is recommended, and it is the best known advice for speeding up the metabolic process. Not to mention the beneficial effect the introducing of more meals has on every diet.
Although this plan sounds simple, many people in the age of fifties already went through some serious health problems, and they should get the advice from the dietitian or from their specialist before starting a diet programme.
The important matter that must be mentioned, as far as the elderly people are considered, is the one of the bearing the exercise programs with more difficulties. But, there are some good solutions to this problem. The advices that are focused to help a person to have some daily physical activity are, for example, joining some group training that is not so exhausting, such as yoga, Pilates or tai chi. One of the good tricks is getting a pet such as dog, and that way, introducing the walks every day.
Also, one should have in mind that there are certain foods that must be avoided. Essentially, it is good to throw out all the fast food products and snacks which are always filled with the simple carbohydrates. This type of carbs is harmful to every diet. Instead of them, the whole grains should be introduced to the eating regime, mostly because they are filled with the nutrients and vitamins.
The foods containing the saturated fats must be avoided right away. They are highly harmful not only to the diet, but also to the health in general. They have the characteristic of creating the bigger amount of cholesterol, which usually leads to heart related problems, especially in the organisms of the people being past middle age. The substitutes are, of course, the unsaturated fats, for example, the avocados, olive oil and nuts.
