There are no real limitations as to what the human brain can learn or understand. Our brains work even whilst we are asleep, and our brains can be revitalized and enhanced by several different means, including problem solving and mind games. Try to give your a brain a workout and help it to achieve as much of its potential as it can.

Setting Targets

When looking to give your brain a boost, don’t be afraid to set targets or goals for yourself. For example, if you are trying to improve your reading skills, set a target of reading 2 or 3 pages each time. Do not set your initial targets too high and don’t become over ambitious. With other kinds of problems, try to visualize the solutions and the problem itself in your head. For example, if you are trying to solve a trigonometry problem, try to picture the lines in your head. Additionally, when undertaking mathematical or arithmetic pursuits, put down the calculator and make the calculations yourself. In your free time, it might be a good idea to create your own mathematics problems and then try to solve them.

Mind Games

Try to exercise your mind as much as possible. Play games such as Memory or chess. If you don’t know how, find out. Ask someone who does know or do some online research. It might also be a good idea to undertake some kind of autonomous study. Choose a country and learn about its history, geography, capital city etc. Doing this once per month can have great educational effects. Additionally, you might like to try to learn a certain amount of new facts each day. Study the state in which you live, study politics or international affairs in your spare time.

Association

When you are learning, it is important to take into account the power of association. If you are reading, focus on any images that might be present. If you are introduced to someone new, remember their name and, later, try to visualize facial characteristics based around the memory of their name. Try to keep cuttings or copies of things that interest you, as this might help you to better commit them to memory. Use audio tapes while driving or working out.

Staying physically fit can also help improve your brain function. Try to develop some hobbies or interests. It matters not the banality of such hobbies, only that you partake in them. Just as the body needs exercise, so too does the brain.
