Introduction
A lighter life diet is one that combines a very low calorie intake and counseling. All regular food is taken out the diet and is replaced with four meals that comes in the form of shakes, soups, mousses or bars. These four meals will provide only 500 calories per day, but at the same time, they will be giving a person protein, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals on a regular basis, which the body needs in order to function properly.
The shakes will be in different, usually fairly delicious flavors, including chocolate, vanilla and caramel flavors.
The soups that are eaten are usually mushroom, chicken, vegetable and chili flavored. The bars that are available are nutcrunch, lemon, other fruit, and toffee flavors.
These products are all made by Lighter Life to be used in this diet and they all meet government standards and guidelines for meal replacements as far as the amount of nutrients they contained is concerned.
They are often similar to Slim Fast products.
In addition to this new regiment of eating, a person will also be attending counseling sessions every week in order to help them understand their relationship with food and in order to help them make changes that will enable them to keep the weight off for good once it has been lost.
It is a fairly extreme diet and is therefore only recommended for adults who are either obese or on the verge of being obese.
Side effects
Of course, with such an extreme change in diet there are bound to be side effects.
Diets with vary low calorie intake cause the fat to be broken down at a very rapid pace, which produces a by-product known as ketones which often result in feeling tired, weak, dizzy, nauseous and not being able to sleep well.
However, these side effects do not last very long, and in the long run, ketones will suppress the appetite naturally and even improve the way a person is feeling.
In the meantime, however, there will be symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, dry skin, hair loss, or a weakened immune system.
Another problem with people who are extremely overweight and lose the pounds quickly is that there will be loose and saggy skin on many parts of the body once the fat is no longer there.
Usually, in the extreme cases of weight loss, surgery is required to get rid of all this excess skin.
Another thing to remember is that this kind of strict diet will affect a persons social activities as well. Social events like parties that usually revolve around food and drinks, could be very hard for people to attend, because they usually equate having fun at such social events with eating good food and drinking beverages that are not allowed to be consumed while on the diet.
