Living with Low Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is our own view of ourselves. Therefore, seeing yourself as a positive and capable person is crucial for being one in reality. People who suffer from low self-esteem are incapable of achieving goals in life, or even trying to achieve them. They may consider themselves inadequate or unworthy of success and happiness, thus failing in all aspects of life, due to their lack of self-esteem.

Self-esteem is, therefore, crucial in order to live life to the fullest, be creative and indulge into all the aspects of life which make you happy and satisfied. Yet, many people are not able to do this due to their low self-esteem. Then, they are sentenced to self-judgment, shyness, communication issues and many other problems preventing them from being happy.

How To Know If You Have Low Self-Esteem?

People with low self-esteem feel awkward when exposed to other people, even if these are their coworkers, family members and friends, let alone strangers. People with self-esteem issues look down on themselves and place themselves below other people on a physical, mental or athletic level. Also, they never consider themselves important for the success of any community or institution. Rather, they perceive themselves as redundant.

If you are constantly exposed to such attitudes, you are likely suffering from low self-esteem. What is more, the reality about you is bound to be different than how you see it. If you ask your colleagues from work, for example, they are likely to praise you for something you have never given yourself credit for.

So, you need to pay attention to your needs and rank yourself equal to other people. Stop pleasing everyone and focus on your own needs a bit.

Also, if you are constantly bothered by thoughts that your clothes, style, hairstyle or any other aspect of physical appearance are not appealing, no matter how much time you invest in taking care of yourself, you are likely to be wrong. Obsessions about weight, clothes, facial features or aesthetics are usually a sign of low self-esteem.

You need to focus on the positive aspects of yourself since, if you constantly dwell on the negative ones, you might develop a disorder of some sorts. If the world has no problem living with you, you should have no problems living with the rest of the world either. Rather, you should enjoy every second of your own beautiful uniqueness.

Also, proneness to self-criticism is another sign of low self-esteem. If this is the case with you, you need to build your self-appreciation and self-respect once again. Seek help from friends, literature or professionals. Just do not ignore your self-esteem issues since they might escalate to something far more serious.
