Hypothyroidism – explanation

Hypothyroidism is the condition caused by low levels ofthyroid hormones. Thyroid gland produces hormones T3 and T4, which controlmetabolic processes in our body.Symptoms of hypothyroidism are weakness of the whole body,tiredness, cold intolerance, constipation, muscle problems, dry skin, thin hairand nails, paleness and possible osteoporosis.

The condition should be treated. Untreated hypothyroidismcould cause high cholesterol levels endangering your heart or it could affectthe unborn baby if mom is not treated during her pregnancy.

Women after 60 and people with the history of hypothyroidismin the family are at the increased risk of having this condition.

Hypothyroidism – causes

The most common cause of this condition in the United Statesis an immune disorder called Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Immune system of the patientsis attacking the gland and it can no longer produce enough hormones for thebody. Other possible causes include thyroid inflammation, thyroid removalsurgery and cancer therapy. The lack of thyroid hormones might sometimes beconnected to pituitary gland problems.

Natural solutions

Iodine is important in hypothyroidism treatment. Normally iodine is found in vegetables and fruits, like radish, parsley, potatoes,oatmeal or bananas. Yoghurt, eggs, meat,fish and other seafood are also good source of this substance. If your bodylacks the substance you could try Kelp tablets, rich in iodine. Kelp is the brownseaweed and one tablet contains 225 mcg of iodine.

Another seaweed, used in hypothyroid treatment, is calledbladderwrack. It is also rich in iodine, but also in potassium, magnesium,calcium, zinc and iron, and many other essential substances. Amino acid tyrosine is also essential for thyroid hormones synthesisand could be used as the supplement in hypothyroidism.
