Metabolism is the procedure of breaking down proteins, carbohydrates, and fats to release the energy body need to function. Metabolic rate depends on the relationships between the amount of calories one takes and amount of calories that one burns.

Negative calorie diet

People with high metabolisms can normally eat more food without gaining additional weight. However, some fat burning foods burn more calories than the calorie content of the food itself. They are known as the negative calorie foods because body consumes more energy (calories) to perform the act of digestion, than the food itself contains.

Skipping meals or low nutrition diet will not help much. Actually, it will slow down the metabolism thus making it even harder to lose weight. Choosing right foods in combination with an active lifestyle will boost the metabolism and make it burn more calories.

Fat burning foods

Foods rich in vitamin C, such as citrus fruits like limes, lemons, oranges, guava, grapefruit, papaya, sweet lime, tangerines and tomatoes, all have fat burning properties. Vitamin C stimulates the process of burning fats and dilutes fats making it less efficient. It also helps discharging the fat from the body.

Calcium rich products like milk, cheese, yogurt, and other dairy products are known of their ability to break down fat in fat cells. Milky diet with some calorie restrictions may double the rate of weight loss. 3-4 servings of dairy products a day should be efficient enough. Studies show that subjects, who consumed three servings of calcium-rich dairy per day, lost more visceral fat than those who undertook the same diet but without two or more of the daily diary servings. Using dairy products instead of the calcium supplements is proven to be more effective.

Nuts should be included in every-day diet because they bring on the feeling of fullness while increasing body’s capacity to burn fat.

Chilies and cayenne pepper contain capsaicin. Thermogenic food, such as capsaicin, boosts the metabolism and forces the body to burn extra calories for 20 minutes after the meal.

Protein rich food and food high in fiber are best to burn abdominal fat. Body needs more energy to digest proteins so low calorie milk products, beans, whole grains, oatmeal, eggs and other protein-rich foods should take a great part of healthy fat burning diet plan.

Asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, lettuce, cabbage, carrot, watermelon and zucchini are all metabolism-boosting foods. For example, 100 grams of broccoli has 25 calories but it takes 80 calories to digest it. Our body will actually lose 55 calories in the process of digestion.
