Lower stomach pain in men

Abdominal or stomach pain is one of the most common discomforts for people. The abdomen is a part of the body in which many important organs are placed. Therefore, some disorder of any of these organs may cause the pain in this region.

When pain appears in lower stomach in men, it usually comes from the intestines and urinary tract. This pain is not the same in everybody since it varies in intensity and can range from mild to severe cramping.

Causes of lower stomach pain in men

There are many reasons that might be responsible for the occurrence of lower abdominal pain in men.

When a man suffers from kidney disorder such as kidney stones, the pain in the lower abdomen usually appears accompanied by unbearable spasms that affect the back and the groin region. The medical term for the condition inquestion is nephrolithiasis. Another cause for the incidence of pain in the lower abdomen in men is irritable bowel syndrome. This condition is characterized by frequent alteration of constipation and diarrhea. Irritable bowel syndrome is usually caused by stress or improper diet.

Lower stomach pain in men may also occur due to appendicitis, which is the medical term for the inflammation of the appendix. Appendix is a tube that extends from the large intestine and its function in the body is not established yet. When appendicitis occurs, the pain in the lower abdomen is accompanied by nausea, vomiting, fever and loss of appetite. It should be treated at once by removing the inflamed appendix.

Ulcerative colitis is a condition that is also a potential cause for the occurrence of the pain in the lower abdomen in men. This condition is marked by forming of ulcers or sores in the lining the colon and rectum. Anemia, loss of body weight, skin lesions and fever, as well as nausea and bloody diarrhea, may also appear as the symptoms of ulcerative colitis. Lower stomach pain in men may also be triggered by cystitis, which is the inflammation of the urinary bladder. When cystitis occurs in men, pain in the lower stomach is accompanied by pressure in the pelvic area, pain during urination, frequent urination and blood in the urine.

Other potential causes for the occurrence of lower stomach pain in men may include seminal vesculitis, colon cancer, diverticulitis, hernia, Crohn’s disease and gastroenteritis, as well as abscess, prostate infection and sexually transmitted diseases.
