Abdominal aortic aneurysm is the condition when the aorta, due to certain reasons, starts to leak, thus causing pain in the lower abdomen. Another causative factor for the appearance of lower abdominal discomfort and pain is the inflammation of the appendix. Appendicitis typically causes sharp and almost unbearable pain, and the person with this problem needs to undergo an operation in which the appendix will be removed. Discomfort in the lower abdomen is also induced by bladder infection, which is medically called cystitis, as well as by diverticulitis, which refers to the inflammation of the diverticula of the colon. Furthermore, the bowel obstruction, Crohn’s disease and irritable bowel syndrome are also responsible for the occurrence of the pain in the lower part of the abdomen. When it comes to women, every woman usually feels some kinds of discomfort before or during the menstruation. Furthermore, ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cysts and endometriosis are some of the condition that occur only in women and that are the culprits for the incidence of pain in the lower abdomen. When a woman develops ectopic pregnancy, it happens that the fertilized egg is not implanted in the uterus wall as it should, but outsides of it. When it grows, it usually ruptures the wall of the organ where it is implanted, thus causing severe pain. On the other side, endometriosis occurs when the cells of the uterus lining start to grow outside of the uterus, while ovarian cysts refer to the formation of the cysts within the ovaries.
