Lymphedema
Lymphedema is the medical term for the swelling that appears usually in only one arm or leg, but sometimes it may affect both arms or both legs. It occurs because the lymph cannot normally flow through the lymphatic system owing to some blockage in it.
Two types of lymphedema are distinguished, primary and secondary. Primary lymphedema occurs because of the missing of the lymphatic channels that carry lymph, and there are three classes of it: congenital lymphedema, which appears at birth, lymphedema praecox, which appears in puberty, and lymphedema tarda, which occurs later in life. Secondary lymphedema happens as a result of some infection.
