There are many home remedies that can be used to take care of the throat-related problems.
If a person has laryngitis, they can take a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with a half glass of water every hour for seven hours.
Cayenne pepper is also a good home remedy. A person should pour one cup of boiling water into a cup and then add about a quarter teaspoon of cayenne pepper and some lemon juice to the mix. The hotter this concoction is the better it will work to heal the throat.
Gargling with DMSO is also a good idea.
Another good remedy is to boil a pot of water and then a couple drops of chamomile essential oil, about three drops of lavender essential oil and another couple drops of thyme essential oil. After it has boiled, a person should put a towel over their head and inhale the vapors coming from the pot.
Believe it or not, sucking on a piece of ice is a good remedy from stopping the spasms in the throat that are causing a person to cough excessively.
Another good gargle that can be used is made of onion syrup, honey and lemon.
Slippery elm
Slippery elm is a tree that is commonly found in North America and its leaves can be used as an excellent remedy for Laryngitis and various inflammation of the throat.
It is also very nutritious and is good to use when recovering from an illness.
The best way to use it is to mix one part of the powdered bark of the tree with eight parts of boiling water and let it simmer for 10 to 15, after which the beverage should be consumed three times a day.
Slippery elm tea can also be made, but the above-mentioned remedy is a lot stronger than the tea.
There are health stores that sell lozenges made out of slipper elm as well. Peppermint
Peppermint has been used for a long time as a remedy. It was used in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome for its healing effects.
It gives a very soothing effect to the entire digestive tract, including the esophagus.
If a person begins drinking peppermint at the onset of a cold, it can have a very calming effect on the throat.
It is also available in many different forms, but the best way to treat laryngitis is by making a tea with it. It is a very simple method, all a person must do is to steep the for 15 to 20 minutes and to then add some honey for both a better taste and some more soothing effects for the throat.
