Herbal remedies for Women

False Unicorn Root:

It a very rare plant and one should use it only if it is indispensable. It helps to regulate the ovaries and strengthen the lining of the womb. However, it should never be used during pregnancy.

Red Clover:

The leaves and blossoms are rich in B vitamins, calcium and protein and also helps to detoxify the blood. It helps to boost fertility. Four cups a day but you need to use it for a long period of time in order for it to work.

It has blood-thinning properties, so post-op patients or patients with blood-clotting disorders shouldn’t use it.

Licorice Root:

Licorice Root is found all across Asia and Europe. It boosts immunity, eases menopause problems diminishes inflammation and protects the liver. It contains estrogenic properties which are helpful with normalizing and controlling hormone levels during menopause. It may raise blood pressure, cause water retention, headache and potassium loss

Wild yam extract:

It contains a sapogenin called diosgenin. Diosgenin originates from hormone progesterone. It contains "plant estrogen" which does produce estrogenic effects which alleviate female problems. It can prevent miscarriage and relieves nausea connected to morning sickness. However, it may not be successful in preventing pregnancy.

Dong Quai/Angelica polymorpha sinensis:

Chinese herbal remedy made from the root of angelica sinensis. The root has a strong smell and a sweet taste. It is efficient in resolving female problems such as premenstrual syndrome, menstrual cramps and menopause. It may cause some fair-skinned persons to become more sensitive to sunlight. Pregnant women shouldn’t take it in large quantities.

Herbal Remedies For Men

Damiana Leaf:

It is known for its positive effect on the reproductive organs and for it aphrodisiac qualities. It contains alkaloid that acts like the male hormone testosterone--an increase which is associated with a heightened level of sex drive in both sexes but one shouldn’t use it too much because it can cause overstimulation.

Saw Palmetto Berries:

It arouses the sex hormones and can also be used to treat prostate enlargement. A decoction can be made from ½ teaspoon of berries to one cup of water. One to two cups a day are enough.

Zinc, Vitamin E and Vitamin B6 can help to boost fertility. Zinc deficiency has been linked to low sperm count and a loss of libido in men and reduced fertility in women.

Herbs should never be taken in combination with any other type of fertility drugs and some herbal cures may actually decrease fertility, such as St John's Wort, Ginkgo and Echinacea.
